ILLUMINISM, MINDFULNESS AND FREEDOM: For the 50th Anniversary of Terzani’s Books
An event about Italian Literature in Thailand
EVENT IN PRE PRODUCTION
Tiziano Terzani (1938-2004) is certainly the world’s best known and best seller Italian writer resident in Thailand. His books were translated into many languages: German, French, Polish, Spanish, Portuguese, Dutch, Turkish, Slovenian, Japanese, Chinese, Russian, Hungarian, Romanian and by publishers from India (English), Thailand (English), Brazil (Portuguese) and Argentina (Spanish). 50 years after Terzani’s first books in 1973, the panorama of Italian literature in Thailand has changed profoundly: it has become polyhedric and multi-faceted.
In the new century, 20 Italian writers in Thailand have published 30 new books, mostly in Italian and English language. Their publishers include large and independent houses such as Aracne, Ave, Bertoni, Bompiani, Delos, Hoepli, Feltrinelli, Franco Angeli, Mondadori, Pickwick, Portoria, ROI, Rosenberg & Sellier, Sperling & Kupfer, Springer, Touring, as well as specialized and academic publishers, including Springer, Tibet house in New York and others. Italian writers in Thailand include full time professional writers, international civil servants and diplomats, journalists, business leaders, university faculty members and travelers. While their diversity is great, they share a common love for Thai culture and for the Thai people with whom they live and work in Thailand.
Well recognized writers in Thailand include Paolo Bertozzini, Raimondo Bultrini, Sandro Calvani, Paolo Euron, Lucia Giovannini, Giacomo Iobizzi, Filippo Lubrano, Maurizio Mistretta, Tommaso Maggio, Massimo Morello, Clara Nubile, Salvatore Parisi, Andrea Pistolesi, Paolo Piazzardi, Fabio Polese, Claudio Ruggeri, Alessandro Stasi, Michele Tomea, Francesco Tortora and others.
CIAO, tribute to Gianni Rodari was a really great success. It was performed at the Siam Ganesha Theatre on 17 and 18 December 2020.
The Bangkok Post has correctly described the event as “Spreading Italian Love” in an article dedicated to our performance.
A lovely ending to this difficult year allowed the metaphoric birth of the wonderful permanent children workshop GIANNI RODARI, dedicated to our most important writer for children.
We wish to express our most heartfelt thanks to H.E the Italian Ambassador Lorenzo Galanti, his spouse, the writer Francesca Andreini, the vice Ambassador Ugo Boni and his spouse Gulzhanat Kaiyrbekova.
During both events, after the institutional remarks, prof. Sandro Calvani gave an inspiring speech about the importance of Gianni Rodari for all generations of Italians, with his messages of inclusion, peace and mutual understanding.
Then the lovely performances by the children alternated by two readings of Maurizio Seu and Maurizio Mistretta, who has directed the whole program as well.
The splendid music of Maestro Alberto Firrincieli has thrilled the large audience.
A special thanks also to Thanyalialuck Nokyung and Nongnapa Manikan for their skilled job dedicated to kids’ coaching.
The event was produced by the Italian Embassy in Thailand and the Bangkok International Artists Guild.
The RODARI workshop will start its second session in February 2021 at the Ratchada Auditorium of the Yamaha Music School
